The Gift of Sight Appeal

The Gift of Sight Appeal was established with the aim of funding world-class research into the prevention and treatment of blindness.

Generous philanthropic gifts, including legacies and direct debits, have helped us increase the number of staff employed in our vision science research group.  This enables us to train the next generation of academic ophthalmologists and visual scientists and to provide them with the equipment they need to undertake their vital sight saving projects.

Our researchers study the underlying causes of disease and these findings will help to inform the new treatments and therapies for the future.

We have four fundraising priorities:

  • to support research activity across all the vision science research group
  • to fund research into age-related macular degeneration and retinal diseases
  • to fund research into the prevention and treatment of blindness in babies and children
  • to support our corneal and other front-of-eye research
